In season six, there's an almost infamous scene that's never shown on camera, where Buffy, having been resurrected, gets a call from Angel, and they go to see each other. I really wanted to write that story. In season six. This seriously dates it, too. Been on my hard drive for a long time--though, granted, I'm not as much of a veteran as some. It's old for me, though, and time to let it go.

She was running away from her problems. Surprise.

When he had phoned her that evening, to hear her voice (he said), to tell her he knew she was back (he said), to see if she still loved him (he didn’t say) she knew the only thing to do was to run to him. She couldn’t deal with her problems right now, she didn’t want to. So she left her home in capable hands and hightailed it to the rushed meeting place between their two points.

He was there, a darkened shadow. She sensed him far before she ever got a straight look at him, just as she knew he did the same. It was an old ritual, one that had not changed though the years had passed. When she finally caught his eyes, she saw a face, his face, turned a darker shade of pale by the shadowes that danced over his normal broody face.

She almost felt self-consciouss, wondering if her hair was mussed and did she wear the right shirt for a meeting with an ex-lover who thought you were gone? The questions were brushed from her mind as he came closer warily. His gaze locked on her face and never moved, and she clasped her hands behind her back, briefly flashing to that night when they had been cut and bruised and she had done the same to hide them from a watchful gaze.

No words were spoken as they made their way to a back booth in the empty, darkened diner. They sat down, and just looked at each other for what seemed like an endless moment. They were waiting for something, they didn’t know what. And neither knew who was meant to go first.
