Seth ran.
He ran till his lungs were aching, till he pulled breaths painfully into his body and his muscles complained and fought against him. Seth ran until he thought he would fall, ungainly, on his face, and even then ran more.
He wanted to outrun Ryan and the images crowding his head, the harsh words he'd thrown out carelessly, thinking of nothing but his own confusion and anger. It was a hard reminder that came, realization that he had no claim over Ryan. They were friends, the irony of it all, and now Seth ran to escape all that he was beginning to think he was too young to understand.
He stopped, finally, because no body can go on forever, and when he fell he was surprised to find strong arms come around him and hold him close. He'd never expected kind, gentling words, or the soft brush of tender fingers against his forehead.
Seth should have known that he could never leave Ryan behind.
